Round 4 of the WCS $1000 Knockout took place last Monday at Palm Beach. Here is a quick look back to what happened.
The top two in the championship locked out the front row as Jernej Simoncic took Pole from Kiril
Birukov. The opening laps were fairly static until newcomer Eziroglou spun out onto the grass.
Then, major drama. Birukov lost it out of the final corner and hit the pitwall. Out of the race Kiril
went leaving Simoncic to extend his championship lead.
Pavlov and Eziroglou were eliminated on lap eight as Simoncic took the race win. Galanomatis came home second ahead of Masciulli and Hoyer – who managed to find the wall on the last lap.
Race Two saw a frantic start with Birukov rising to fifth from the get-go. Eziroglou had another spin in the early stages to fall to the back.
Hoyer lost control of his car on lap 5 and almost took Masciulli out - both getting away with minimal damage.
The eliminations saw Pavlov, Eziroglou and Galanomatis – second on the road – drop out.
Simoncic made it two from two ahead of Masciulli, a recovering Birukov and Hoyer.
Race Three saw contact at turn 1 between Birukov, Hoyer and Pavlov. The former and latter were forced out of the race whilst Hoyer regrouped.
The following lap produced more drama – Eziroglou and Simoncic spinning together. Eziroglou retired following another incident.
It would be Hoyer who took his first series win, but the action was all behind. Galanomatis was trying to close in but could only manage a second, whilst Simoncic made a lunge at the final corner for third
ahead of Masciulli.
Simoncic remains at the top of the standings as the racing moves onto Round 5
